A View in the Lovers Walks, Matlock
Robertson, George (1777-1833)
No date set
George Roberston was a porcelain painter. He came to Derby around 1796 and worked for William Deusbury at the Derby China Manufactory.
The Lovers’ Walks are a series of footpaths that crisscross the hillside below Matlock High Tor. They were created in the 1740s and were accessed via a ferry from the boat house. This watercolour shows the cascades from the viewing platform. Here visitors could get a good view of the thermal waters, tumbling into the River Derwent.
