Bolsover Castle

Glover, John (1767-1849)

No date set

This sketchbook is attributed to John Glover. We know that Glover visited Derbyshire in the early 1800s. The National Gallery of Australia holds a sketchbook dating from 1802-c.1808 that contains his sketches of Matlock.

Situated in the North East of the County, Bolsover Castle was not a regular stop on the Derbyshire tour. It was visited by Thomas Pennant and both Samuel Hieronymus Grimm and Thomas Girtin painted it.
