Wingfield Manor and village, seven miles from Matlock, July the 8th 1808

Cartwright, H

15.7.1808

Wingfield Manor was a medieval manor house built in the 1440s. It was deserted around the 1770s and later fell into disrepair however it was not a major attraction for artists and visitors in search of the picturesque. John Robert Cozens sketched the manor on his tour in 1772 (National Library Wales) as did Samuel Hieronymus Grimm in 1773 (British Library).
